WHERE THE MINISTRY IS TODAY

Our mission today is to provide an encouraging environment for the poor and underprivileged youth in our community, whereby allowing them to experience God's wondrous creation through outdoor activities. We share the Word of God, through Holy Bible scripture, and discuss positive practical application in our daily lives, and at the same time enjoying the teamwork with each other through sport. Today the ministry is only available to go out on Saturday, and we have a Praise and Worship service about once a month on Sunday. Captain Tony’s wife Jeannie Caruso, is an ordained minister, and leads the Praise and Worship service. We offer two different types of trips:

  1. Drift Fishing
  2. Peanut Island Adventure BBQ Cruise

Our drift fishing trip can accommodate about 8-10 people fishing, with 2-4 crew. We generally go out about four to six miles over certain reefs, and fish for snapper, kingfish, and grouper, and generally run about 6 hours (8:00am to 2:00pm or 9:00am to 3:00pm). We provide all bait and tackle, and water and soda for drinks. Our trip starts with Captain Tony providing a history and description of the GOOD NEWS Fishing Ministry, safety procedures, and cautions & rules on the boat. He then leads us in prayer, before we get under way. We fish for a couple of hours, and then at an appropriate time Captain Tony shares a message with all passengers. The message is based on Bible scripture, both Old and New Testament, and is different for each trip, and relevant to the group we are serving. He then offers the Salvation Prayer for any and all who feel that God is calling them to give their life to Christ. We also make available to them, bibles and tracts. We then resume fishing and fellowship and return to the dock. All fish caught are then cleaned and filleted and distributed among our guests.
The Peanut Island Adventure BBQ Cruise is available for larger groups, especially children, and youth. We can accommodate 30 kids& adults for the short trip to Peanut Island. We have made multiple trips for larger groups. The trip last about 6 to 7 hours and includes a number of activities, including swimming, snorkeling, beach games, hiking, and fishing. We disembark on the island, and set up camp at one of the pavilions. Under the supervision of crew and chaperones the kids partake in all of the activities offered. At lunchtime the crew of the GOOD NEWS prepares a BBQ lunch, complete with hamburgers, hot dogs, soda, water, Gatorade, salads, and desserts. After a prayer and blessing everybody eats together. Directly after the meal, Captain Tony shares a message as he does on the fishing trip, and offers the Salvation Prayer. We then resume activities and continue the fellowship with everybody, until we return to our dock.
We have established ongoing relationships with Youth for Christ, Urban Youth Impact, and other youth outreach programs from Fort Lauderdale to Martin County. We provide programs for youth pastors at various churches in the area. We have provided custom trips for those looking to utilize the GOOD NEWS for outreach, and we serve as the sport fishing ministry for Christ Fellowship Church.
